Day 125: Until next time

In April 2012, I made a decision that will forever change my life. I chose to volunteer as an English teacher through International Language Programs, to teach in Zhongshan, China for the first four months of 2013. At first, I figured this would be an amazing opportunity to do what I love, travel, spend time with cute little kids, and find some fun Chinese trinkets to take home with me. Seeing as how my time in China has now come to a close, I have realized that this experience here has been much more than what I had initially assumed it to be. I have learned so much about myself, the Chinese culture, how to navigate my way around a completely foreign country, how to cook different Chinese traditional dishes, how to speak yi dian dian Chinese, how to be a more loving and patient human being, and mostly, how to adapt to a completely new lifestyle and environment. There were many individuals whom I can thank for all I've learned, including my wonderful Chinese coordinators, Marine, Gloria, Rainy, and Vicky, the members in my group, sweet Carmelo and his family, our kindergarten teacher and good friend Victoria, the staff at Bond, and especially my kiddos I spent each and every day with.

The lessons I've learned couldn't have been taught in a class or through a textbook, but only through the experiences, both the good and the bad, that I have had here. I've learned that even though there may be a language barrier and communication is difficult, you can still feel so much love through interactions with others. I have never been exposed to so many wonderful individuals as I have been in China, and to all of whom I am so grateful for and love very much. Our coordinators have gone above and beyond their duties and shown us how to actually live in China, by teaching us how to make traditional meals together, showing us how to buy train tickets, taking us to KTV, celebrating our birthdays with us, teaching us how to barter, etc. They grew to be some of our greatest friends throughout our visit here. I've also felt this same love through the kids I taught. Although they are so young, they have shown me how to love, even when things don't necessarily go my way, or if something is difficult. They have taught me the true meaning of patience and how to make the best of things. My friends, Carmelo, Victoria, Joan, etc., have taught me so much about how to treat people with the upmost respect, and how to have a good time no matter what you do. Carmelo has especially impacted my life and the way I view things, he will forever be a dear friend to me.

These experiences I've had with the people I have met here will be the most precious souvenirs that I have to take back home with me. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had to come to China, I will forever remember and treasure these moments. Although my trip has concluded, that doesn't mean the relationships, lessons, and memories I have made have to end as well. I know that these farewells I've had have been really hard on me, but I have to remind myself that they are not goodbyes, but more like, "I'll see you in the future", as Marine would say. I have a big spot in my heart for China and its people, and I can't wait for the day when I can return for a visit.

Until next time, xoxo 親親抱抱

Day 124: Hong Kong

I am really exhausted, and simply not in the mood to write. Although the day in Hong Kong was wonderful, it just means I am one day closer to the end. Here are some little highlights:

Took the 8:00 ferry this morning, and felt like I was going to hurl the entire time. It was a case of motion sickness at its finest, making it not the most pleasant experience I've ever had.

Arrived at our hostel. I have never seen so many people from India and Singapore in my life, I almost forgot I was in China. My sweet friend Courtney Jane would have been in heaven!

The hostel was a chaotic mess. There are five blocks in the building, two elevators, with each only going up evens, or up odds, but not down to the opposing numbers, room changes times like five, the sweet scent of onions, body odor, and cigarettes, and a room the size of a small closet. Fancy livin' here we are.

Joan and Carmelo found us and saved the day, we were so happy to see them. We went out to lunch, and then enjoyed a lovely afternoon visit to the Hong Kong temple. It's a lot different than I thought, and doesn't really have a grounds to walk around on, but it's still a beautiful site to see.

We went to this very fancy mall, where I couldn't afford nearly anything. We mostly window shopped, and I found my long desired hole puncher. That alone made my day.

We came back to our closet, took a nap, and then went out to the harbor light show. It might have been slightly talked up, but it was still an exciting event.

We got fruit smoothies with mango jelly, Carmelo and I walked around this beautiful park/restaurant thing, and the we chatted as we headed back.

I now can't sleep, and am dreading the morning. Hooray for a new day.

Day 123: Farewell

This has been the worst day ever, seriously. From the moment I woke up, looked outside at the pouring rain and gloomy skies, I just knew it was going to be wretched. I had to say way too many goodbyes than I will ever be comfortable with, and I've cried more times today than I think I have in my entire life. I can't believe I leave for Hong Kong in the morning. My heart hurts, as well as my poor eyes from all these darn tears.

I guess one funny part of the day was when Courtney was turning in her key to Rainey and said, "here's my damn key" and sweet Rainey just sweetly replied, and then said to Lexi, ever so gently, "Lexi, can I have your damn key?" She lightened the mood and got us all laughing, she's such a gem.

Day 122: Out on the town

My time today was well spent with dear Carmelo. We started out by going to lunch at this Japanese sushi restaurant, where you can sit at this circular bar that has a conveyer belt around it. There is a variety of different types of sushi that goes around on it, and you can choose whatever dish you want.  Different plates were different colors, meaning they were different prices. I was really taken by this idea, I thought it was really clever.

After lunch, we walked around this shopping mall, and were on a mission, well two missions: 1) find matching t-shirts. They're huge in China, so we decided we needed to join the trend. 2) find an outfit for me to wear to my friend Kayla's wedding when I get home. I don't have anything suitable for a wedding here, so I decided to try and look for something new to buy. Carmelo was acting as my personal assistant and trying to find me the perfect dress, but it turned out to be somewhat of a bust. My shoulders were too big for some dresses or I was too tall, meaning the dresses were more like shirts on me. Anyways, we gave up on that mission and just concentrated on accomplishing mission #1.

We searched and searched for the right t-shirts, and eventually found the perfect ones. They are red, black, and white, with giant panda heads on the front of them. We plan on wearing them my last day here, so be prepared for some good pictures.

It's always a guaranteed good time when I'm with Carmelo. It doesn't really matter what we do, I just love being around him. He is so kind, gentle, and so loving. I'm really going to miss him.

Day 121: Bye Head Teacha

I woke up to the sound of Jenna yelling (or singing, maybe) in the hallway this morning, which isn't that abnormal for us two. However, I was more startled than normal because one, it was abnormally loud and came from an unknown location and two, because I thought I had slept in too late and missed seeing Amanda and Preston off. However, I quickly came to my senses, ran into the hall, realized what was going on, and then finally calmed down.

I spent the majority of the morning sitting on Amanda and Preston's bed with Jenna, basically taking up space in their room as they were trying to organize themselves and get out the door. I'm sure they wanted us to get out, but I was having a hard time letting them go so easily, so distracting them was the best thing we could think of. When the time finally came around for them to leave, our whole group got their ukuleles and walked them outside, singing,"I'm yours". So corny, I know, it was a sour of the moment decision. I led the pack, which turned out to be a good thing because as soon as I turned around and saw everyone behind me, I started bawling my eyes out. I realize that we will see these two in a few short weeks, it's just the fact that our group has finally started to disintegrate and things are actually coming to a close. It's a weird feeling, and one that I don't like having, but it's here whether I like it or not.

They left, we gathered ourselves together, and headed off to the Luna market. Carmelo came along with us and I was super happy to see him. I do feel bad though because yet again, he was forced to come shopping with us. He is such a trooper to have out up with us for this long.

We had a lovely afternoon, followed by a delicious dinner with my favorite family in China, the Leung's. I finally got to meet Carmelo's sister Eve and she is so great. Carmelo and her are such a funny sibling couple, they are always teasing each other, well, mostly just Carmelo calling her fat, but yet again, that's not offensive here. So, it's all fair game.

The big news of the night was that I had sushi for the first time while being here! I was beyond excited when the server brought out a big plate of multicolored sushi and placed it in front of us. Konner and I tried this piece together that had the orange fish eggs on the outside, because that's typically the roll I order back home; it was unreal. The sushi here is like fifty times better than it is back home. Everything, especially the fish, tasted so fresh and the sauces were incredible. I was in heaven.

After we were through, we said our goodbyes, well hopefully see you laters, and made our way back to the apartments. We finished off the night by spending the night with our coordinators, yet again. We just can't get enough of these four, they are too great and so funny, especially when they all get together.

Day 120: Contract's up

Well, today was supposed to be our last day of teaching, but all of the kindy teachers begged and pleaded with Marine to let us come back one last time on Monday to say our final goodbyes. She eventually gave in, so a few tears were spared, well, postponed at least, thank goodness. I absolutely despise goodbyes, especially when I have to say goodbye to so many. This week is going to be a hard one.

Today in class, we were given our normal teaching time to just play with the kiddos and take pictures; I couldn't have asked for anything better. I wish we had been allotted more time throughout the semester to have more play time, but either way it's been an incredible experience with them. Also, I brought a white v-neck to class and several different colored sharpies and had each of the kids sign it or draw me a picture. It turned out better than I ever could've asked for, it will easily be my most treasured souvenir.

This evening, we had a wonderful dinner with our coordinators, but it was at the dreadful restaurant where I got my money stolen a few weeks ago. Thus, I was very careful with the whereabouts of my belongings this time. It was so nice to be as a whole group one last time, because it was Amanda and Preston's last night in China. It was so fun to just spend time and exchange notes with each other. It was so sad, yet, so enjoyable.

We spent the rest of the evening swimming in the full moon's light at our favorite pool. We were so excited when Rainey showed up to swim too, she doesn't know how, so we began to teach her. We also played truth or dare for a little while, with some dares being like getting out of the pool, pulling the lifeguard's shoe off, tickling the bottom of his foot, and giggling while looking into his eyes. Chloe had to do it and it was so incredibly awkward, but that made it all the better.

The dinner, pool party, and later parade of naked girls in my room was all so fun (and maybe a little weird), but I think that my favorite part of the day was just that we were all together again, and all so unified. I love the people in my group. We are all very different, but I think that's what brings us together. I never would've thought I'd be as close to as many individuals as I am. It may be crazy, but I love all of them so much.

Day 119: Undie run

Today, I was pleased to find out tat the definition of an undie run was completely redefined. When it was time for outside time, all of our kids stripped down to their underwear and made their way outside. It has been so filthy hot here recently, and the kids just sweat through their clothes if they're outside for too long. That being said, why not play around naked?

The kids were all over the place, playing in the sandbox, exercising with the Chinese teacher, etc. It was so fun for us to be a part of their play time, we usually aren't allowed to have outside time because  of our program policies.

We threw a little surprise party for our sweet head teacher, Amanda, this afternoon to openly thank her and let her know how much we appreciate all she's done for us here. She's been absolutely wonderful, I couldn't have asked for a better head teacher and friend while being here.

As a little gift, all of us teachers wanted to give her something that would remind her of us, in a sweet, yet funny way. After much thought and consideration, we all decided to print our different body parts on a big white t-shirt, in the rider they would naturally occur. For example, Jenna painted her lips and stamped them on the shirt, konner did his eyes right above the lips, the twins did their hands placed near the hips in the shirt, Lexi naturally did her boobs, and after she did that, I just had to do my butt. I had to coat it with really cold paint, by myself, in the bathroom and then stamp it on the back of the shirt. In fact, I was so cold that you can see my goosebumps on my butt print on the shirt, whoops.

We made Amanda guess which body part belonged to each individual, and then we signed the t-shirt. She loved the surprises, and the party was a success. When I got home, I began  making cards and goodie bags for my kids tomorrow, and I'm still not done yet. That being said, I need to finish out strong and start a stuffin'. Good night.

Day 118: The BIG Day!

I cannot even begin to express how perfect this day was. From sun up to sun down, everything seemed so surreal; it's been wonderful. Its been so busy, yet so fun, so I will try my best to get them all accounted for.

We have been preparing for this day for many weeks now, through spending many hours practicing our group and individual performances. My little ones have been rehearsing so much for Cinderella, and today proved that all of their hard work has paid off. We were the first to go on stage, and although the kids were nervous, they were absolutely flawless. The microphones were distributed properly, everyone remembered their lines, their acting was so sassy and hilarious, their English pronunciation was clear, etc. The actual performance was one of the best I've seen in all of their rehearsals too, I was so proud of them!

One of my favorite parts was when little Nancy (an evil stepsister) took the invitation to the royal ball Alex delivered to Cinderella (Jessica), and instead of stomping and smashing it on the floor with her foot, she lightly dropped it and tapped it with her toes. We had practiced this scene many times in class, but she later told me that she didn't want to ruin the letter, because it was beautiful. We typically practiced with a scrap piece of paper, so I should've know better than to spruce up the invitations and make them appealing. Whatever the case though, she was as darling as they come and did a great job.

Another proud moment was the scene when princess Jessica and prince Jason had their special dance at the royal ball. I taught them a very easy six step dance to a beautiful ballroom track, and they just owned the stage. Those two maintained direct eye contact with one another, Jessica curtsied her dress with one hand and had the other draped over Jason's shoulder, they managed to get a dip and a twirl in, it was just so cute. The crowd of parents and teachers went crazy for it. Then, my other favorite moment of the play is when Samson, my crazy little fidgety one, interrupted the dance and came running on the stage in his clock outfit yelling and squirming saying, "bongggggg, it is midnight". He is so dramatic and crazy, which made him an incredible actor and perfect for his part. Everyone laughed and he had the biggest smile across his face. Basically, I have a group of tremendous young actors. They all were so happy at the end when the parents cheered for them, and for me, that alone made all the hard work we've done so worth it. I loved every second of it; I can't wait to replay and watch the recording of it all over again.

The following performances were equally as wonderful as my own; all were so cute in their own way. Teacher Cam Cam's group sang "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and well, about two or three of the seven knew the words, so those individuals got the microphones, yelled ever so loudly directly into them, and well, it was just lovely. Those kids are too funny.

The next performance after Cameron's was teacher Ty Ty's. His class did Peter Pan, and his character assignments were prime. First off, the three most clueless kids in our class are all in his group, and they were all pirates together. Throughout the play, some would run around or dance on the stage (which was not planned) and just do their own thing. It was so funny, until they got a little scolding from the side crew. Then, they were all very well behaved and were perfectly behaved pirates.

Miss Candy was tinker belle, Dora was Wendy, Subie, Tina, and Marly were the lost girls, and Cary (who is also a little spacy) was Peter Pan. At the end of their skit, they all sang the song, "The more we get together, together, together, the more we get together, the happier we will be..." and it was so tender. They put their arms around each other and swayed back and forth while singing; the kids in his group just have the sweetest hearts.

Next on the list was Chloe's performance. Now, up until this point, we all had more difficult skits in my opinion. Teacher Chloe's group, however, was singing and performing "five little ducks", which is adorable, yet, we sing it frequently in class. That being said, you would think the performance would be flawless, right? Well, no. Ritik, the trouble maker in the little kindy class, was Daddy duck, and his only lines were "new day" and "bye bye", yet, Lisa, the mommy duck, had to nudge and remind him each time he was to say his lines, it killed me. Also, when we were doing dress rehearsal yesterday, the kid would either scream "new day" or whisper it, there was no happy medium when he spoke in the microphone. We were all really relieved when he decided to talk in our "inside voice" today.

The performance was funny in itself, but when it came time to sing the actual song, I couldn't keep it together. There was so much going on with each child, they each had agendas of their own. First off, we had Edward and Lisa with the microphones, competing to see who could sing the loudest, Fay Fay standing there and not having a clue as to what was going on, Raina and Ritik dancing around Fay Fay, baby Jack just sporting his cheesy grin to the crowd, and looking adorable as always, and Tony, oh Tony. He was yelling at the top of his lungs, elongating each of the words and throwing the tempo off completely. All the kids were singing different parts of the song because Tony slowed the pace down, so so much. Also, he was yelling so loud that his neck veins were protruding, his face was bright red from the lack of oxygen, and his little eyeballs had easily tripled in size. This song is long when the kids sing it normally, yet today, we learned the true meaning of a long song. It was hilarious experience, but also kind of painful at the same time.

After the crowd had settled and the soreness from laughing started settling in our abs, we moved onto the next performance. Teacher Lexi was next in the docket and her kids were performing Little Red Riding Hood. Jelemy is in her class and was supposed to be the grandpa, but he left for Canada to see his father on the 15th, so Marcus filled in for him. I was really looking forward to see Jelemy act and say in his monotone voice, "I am grandpa, and I am old", but Marcus did a good job at filling in.

Her character selection was perfect: Sami and Ella as Little Red, angry Angel as the big bad wolf, Marcus as the grandpa, and Jackie and Oliver as the strong guys who save the day. They are just a cute bunch of kids. Even if they completely botched the play, it would've been equally as cute. At the end, Lexi had them to sing, "Who Let the Dogs Out?" by the Baha Men. I've always hated that song, until today that is. The kids sang it so proudly with their Chinese accents, it was perfect.

The last individual performance was Teacher Jenna's class, and they did Snow White. Something kind of funny about her play is that earlier in the semester, Jenna had assigned Nicole to be Snow White, but Marine came in and listened one day and said, "Nicole is no longer Snow White. Melanie will be Snow White, she is much better for the part". When I say earlier in the semester, I really mean about two or three weeks ago. That being said, Melanie had to put a lot of work into memorizing her lines for the big day. She did wonderfully and was such a beautiful princess. Also, she went out and bought a brand new Snow White outfit for the performance, brought it to class everyday, and was sure to show teacher Jenna and I everyday, she kills me.

After all of the individual performances, the younger kindy class did a group dance to "Scream and Shout" by Will I Am and Brittany Spears. You couldn't understand much of what they were saying, but hey, who  needs that anyways?! My favorite part was definitely the chorus when they all gain clarity and sing, "I want to scream" and then follow with a piercingly loud scream. and then sing, "and shout", and then let out a deep roar. You could tell that they loved being able, and even asked, to scream and be crazy for the performance. It was such a good one.

Our kids then took the stage and did their dance to our mash up of "I Believe I can Fly", "Some Nights" and "I Feel Good". Jenna and I have worked so hard with them in learning the lyrics and all the transitions and dance moves. Although we have had to change little parts here and there, the kids picked up in things quickly and absolutely nailed it today. They do so many performances here that they are able to pick up dance moves and lyrics so effortlessly, they never fail to impress me. They also sang all of the words, loud and clear, and in English, so that made the dance just that much better. It was a perfect ending to the kids' performances.

Marine asked us, us being the kindy teachers, to put a little dance or some kind of skit together for the parents and kids. Jenna and I naturally got assigned the roll of finding and teaching a dance to our team, and Jenna came up with brilliant idea of doing the famous EFY line dance we all know and "love". I think I learned it when I was fourteen, maybe? Anyways, we tried doing it from memory, but we quickly learned that we were super rusty. We then decided to look up the dance on YouTube, relearn the moves, and teach our groupies. The dance was to the song, "We Like to Party" which is that super obnoxious song they play at like six flags and other amusement parks, but it turned out to be a big hit for our spectators. We also set off party poppers at the beginning of our performance, which caused a lot of excitement, and maybe some fear. I don't quite think that all of them were wuite ready for our loud popping surprises.

Once we were through with our little line dance, Marine began to play the slideshow Lexi and I had put together the day before. We gathered a bunch of pictures of the kids, us teaching, them on children's day, etc. that kind of summed up the semester. Even though I had watched the slideshow a million times while making it with Lex yesterday, I still managed to ball my eyes out while it was playing on the big screen. I had Jonathan on my lap and he would occasionally turn around and wipe my tears away and just say, "teacha, why are you sad?". I just wish they understood how much I truly care about them.

After the slideshow was over, Marine asked all of the teachers to go on the stage. We figured we would be taking pictures with the kids, but they just came down and showered us with gifts instead. There were handmade cards, pictures of them, necklaces, porcelain Chinese cats, bracelets, journals, treats, etc. It was the sweetest thing. Now, it was rather tricky though, because I was holding all these gifts, I was sweating from our dance, and I had just finished crying (aka I looked terribly haggard) and then the parents were trying to get us to take photos with their little ones. It was bad timing, but it all worked out somehow. We got some really cute photos with the kids and their parents, which always end up being the greatest treasure anyways. Also, when I read these cards when I'm back home, I know I'm going to start crying yet again. They say things like, "I love you teacher Kasey, I will miss you forever" or, "Thanksgiving. You have made my life brighter and I really appreciate you". Some may sound odd, but they are so meaningful to me, and they make sense to me. The people here are so wonderful, I can't even get over it.

After I pulled myself and my emotions back together, the six of us decided to get a little lunch and head on over to the pool. The sun was out, we were all dying of heat, and we all got our new swim suits from taobao! What more could we ask for? We spent the majority of the afternoon laying out in the beautiful sunshine and relaxing by the pool. However, I swear that the sun is so much stronger here, because I managed to fry myself, yet again. Hopefully this time I won't shed another layer of skin, that was just down right nasty. I'm crossing my fingers, and my toes.

This evening, all of us teachers had yet another performance scheduled for the primary students and their parents. We had to put on a show that would last at least twenty minutes, meaning we needed to get creative with our acts. Our first act was our group singing, and playing our ukuleles and guitars, to the classic, "I'm yours" we've been playing over and over on this trip. Next, we had our Kung fu masters, McKay, Jenna, Brent, Preston, and Amanda, perform what they've been working on recently in Kung fu. They said that they did terrible, but it looked great as a spectator. They were very entertaining to say the least, and they can take that how they please.

The next performance was just Konner and I singing Obadiah Parker's version of "Hey Ya", while he played his guitar and I played my uke. The performance itself was fine, but the best part about it was that we literally had kids surrounding us on all sides of the stage, Gloria yelling at them in Chinese to get off the stage, her voice trumping mine in the microphone, and my occasional giggle every time me and Konner messed up. I mean, we began practicing together ten minutes before the performance, what more could you expect?

Our group also finally performed the Chinese song we've been practicing, "Those Years", and that absolutely won the crowd over. Almost everyone began singing along, which made the atmosphere just that much better. Tyler and I were the only ones who actually memorized the lyrics, so they stuck us with the microphones and had us sing extra loud. I was impressed both with myself and our group for learning the song and being able to sing it all the way through, it was super tough!

After the primary performances concluded, our group headed out to the field and took some pictures together. Two of my students, Candy and Jaime, were on the track, so after we were through with pictures, Tyler and I began chasing them around and playing games with them. I wish more than anything that we had more time to just play with the kids, rather than just teach them. I realize I am here to teach them, but a little more play/free time like tonight would have been nice.

We ended the night perfectly by getting out favorite Taiwan smoothies. We were all terribly sweaty and hot after the performances and playing with the kiddos, that we just needed something to cool us off. Our sweet smoothie treats did just that, they're always a good fix.

It's been an amazing and very fulfilling day. I can't believe I have only two days left of teaching. It's blowing my mind and breaking my heart. However, I plan to make the best of my time and spend the little time I have left with the ones I've met and grown to love here. On that note, I am off to bed, 晚安, goodnight.

Day 117: Bonggg, it is midnight!

Well, Lexi and I spent the evening compiling the hundreds of pictures we all have taken here and have been organizing them into a slideshow. Our end of the year performances are tomorrow, so we figured the parents would enjoy seeing some of the highlights of the semester. We added music, transitions, cropped pictures, condensed it many times, etc. so we were at it for a few hours. It was a pain in the butt, but it will be so cute and the parents are sure to love it.

I've been doing a lot of last minute things today in preparation for this last week of teaching. I'm exhausted, and it's midnight, so I'm tappin out. Until tomorrow, good night.

Day 116: Family Home Videos

Lexi and I have watched this short video clip of her sister Jaycee ( who I feel like I know already,  because I've heard so many stories about her) and it gets funnier every time we watch it. It's literally five seconds, and says this:

"Rose oh Rose, where have you gone? You promised!"

I love it, it just kills me. I can't wait to meet her family, Mama Cind, Ton Dog, etc. I love them already through the many stories I hear on the daily! See you guys in 9 days!

Day 115: Happy Father's Day

Seeing how our semester here in China is coming to a close, I have had to write several different reports that explain my students' progression and their ability to speak English. When given this task, I found it to be rather daunting, because I have so much to say for each child. They are all equally, but so differently, precious to me, and I just couldn't see how I could write all my thoughts about them in two simple paragraphs. However, through a lot of time, editing, and simplifying, I managed to get my final reports done for each of my eight home group students.

At the end of each of these reports, I left my email address, in hopes to leave the door open between myself and the student after I leave. I would love getting updates or pictures or something when I am back home and can no longer see them everyday. That being said, I was absolutely thrilled when I got an email from Jessica's daddy this weekend. It said the following:

Dear Kasey,

This is Jessica's dad, Jason.   Many thanks for your kind attention to Jessica. She loves all of you very much, even per semester there are many new teachers from the USA. We have realized this term she has begun to speak English better than before and she is more willing to communicate with us at home in English. We think all of these are related with the teaching methods of all teachers. It's really highly appreciated that all of you have done for all children.

Keep in touch.

Have a nice day!

Jason

Jason also sent many pictures of him and his daughter together, and it just put the biggest smile on my face. His love and desire to give his daughter the best really reminded me of my own father. He has always been willing to go out on a limb for me and do whatever it takes for me to be happy. He has also been there to give me the best advice, whether I'm being nice and asking for it, or even if I'm being a punk and just need to hear it. He has always been willing to go on adventures with me, whether it be getting jamocha shakes late at night, taking road trips and talking for hours, going skiing and racing down the mountain together, hiking the mushroom rocks with me, etc. My dad is the man, I am so grateful to have him as my father, my number one fan, and my best friend. I look forward to seeing him in a few short weeks, it will be such a wonderful reunion! I love you Pops!

Day 113: Thanks Carmelo :)

It's amazing what a surprise visit and a sweet treat can do for you, I really have some good people in my life. I am very thankful for the opportunities I've had here to meet and learn to love such wonderful individuals, especially Carmelo. Life is good, and even better when you can spend it with these good people by your side.
