Day 104: Funfetti Cookies

Since Teacha Yummy was out of commission yesterday, I decided I should amp up my treat making skills and prepare something extra special for the kids to enjoy. I decided to use my one and only (and very treasured) funfetti cake mix I brought from home, to make cake batter cookies. Some of my visiting teachers made me these last summer and I absolutely loved them, so i figured I'd give them a shot. They tasted just like cake, but had the consistency of a cookie, sounds like the perfect cookie, right?

I looked up a recipe online yesterday and prepared these cookies for my class today. Since I can't make the actual cookies in class with the kids, (because we don't have an oven in there to bake them with) I typically bring fake ingredients to class to prep fake treats with. Then, after the fake cookies are prepped, they go into the "magical oven" and come out as real cookies, wonderful, right?

Well, today's first fake ingredient was sugar. I used this sparkly white, almost transparent, glitter, and it could easily have been mistaken for real sugar, it was perfect. I asked for someone's help in teacher Jenna's class to scoop a capful of "sugar" and pour it into the bowl. Sassy little Monica willingly offered her assistance, so I had her come to the front and scoop the sugar. Now, Monica can be an attention seeker at times, and to get that attention, she will occasionally do something naughty to get the other kids laughing. For example, when I asked her to pour the sugar into the bowl, she poured about half of it inside the bowl, and the rest to the side of the bowl. I saw it coming, so I couldn't even be mad. The funniest part of this situation was when all of the kids jumped from their seats, licked their fingers, scooped some "sugar" into their hands, and instantly put in their mouths! They know that we don't try anything, the treat or the ingredients, until the teacher is done teaching and cooking. But, they try to sneak little nibbles here and there sometimes, and today was just one of those days.

As I looked around at all of their faces, I saw looks of disgust and confusion. Once they didn't taste anything sweet, they realized that the sugar was not in fact sugar, but it was glitter. They acted too soon and got a mouthful of glitter. I couldn't help but laugh as I watched them spit out wads of white glitter. It was disgusting, yet so funny at the same time. I guess their sneakiness in stealing treats has finally gotten the best of them!

  1. I wonder what their reaction would have been if you used salt instead of sugar!!
How did the cookies turn out? You are the master cookie creator so I am assuming they were delicious. Nice job!
    Love you Kasey,
