Day 47: KTV

I started the day off early by making Konner's birthday cake, made entirely of jello. He seemed uninterested in having a real cake, so Lexi and I decided to put together a cake composed of four types of jello with different shaped jello jigglers on top of it; lets just say, he was thrilled when he got it. If the program would allow him to shower us in kisses, it would've most definitely happened.

I had a very successful day of teaching and taught to kids the game, "man from mars". This game is a lot like sharks and minnows, but with an added twist of the game Simon says. The littles didn't quite understand it, but the older kids picked up in it quickly and had a ball with it. I really enjoy when they actually comprehend what I'm trying to teach them; it makes teaching them much easier and beneficial. Even though I've been with these 5 and 6 year olds for over a month now, I still am amazed with how much English they are able to understand or figure out; they are brilliant, and just blow me way sometimes.

For Konner's birthday party, we decided to rent out a room at a KTV (Chinese karaoke) and sing the night away. I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but karaoke is huge in China, and most Asian countries really. Almost every large shopping mall here has an entire floor dedicated to different rooms you can rent out and sing karaoke in. I wish we had something like this back home, it would be a real hit!

As we walked through the halls to get to our room, we heard the voices of many different individuals, belting out both American and Chinese tunes. They go hard when they're singing, no shhh'ing or being quiet here. The servers at the KTV started us off with a round of beers when we entered our room, one for each of us. Although this a very kind gesture, we passed on the beers, and just ate French fries instead.

After singing the classics for hours: Brittany Spear songs, Celine Dion, Michael Buble, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc., we hopped on the bus and headed home. I had such a good time; everyone participated and didn't hold back, which I think makes these types of things far more entertaining. Some got more into it (and seriously) than others, but it was fun to see everyone in a different atmosphere.
